White Water Merit Badge

When:  Saturday, Aug 20, 2011 & Sunday Aug 21, 2011
Where:  Sat. Chatfield gravel ponds
                Sun. Union St. boat chutes on Platte River (map)
Description:   Mark your calendars, Sat. & Sun. Aug 20/21, the Venture Crew will be hosting a Whitewater Merit Badge/Kayaking Award weekend. Saturday  @ Chatfield gravel ponds, and Sunday @ Union St. boat chutes on the Platte river.  Scouts must be blue swimmers.  Bring a lunch. 8:00am-3 ish depending on weather. There will be a signup list at the next troop meeting. You may start the merit badge on Sat. and make-up Sunday at a later date, but cannot show up Sun. w/o attending Sat.

14er’s Mt. Lincoln and Mt Bross Climb

We will be having a breakout session at the Tuesday July 26th troop
meeting.  If you are planning on going on this hike please plan on
attending.

 For Tuesdays Meeting:
-Collect Medical Forms!!
-Break into Patrols and do meal planning
- Need min of 4 adults for this trip to happen.
-Assign drivers, find a seat for everyone. Suggest gas $ for drivers,
(its 200miles RT)
-Review gear and safety tips

Dates:
Depart- Friday Aug 12th 5:30pm from Mr. Lutz’s house (Wear your Class A’s)
Hike- Saturday Aug 13th
Return- Sunday August 14th around noon.

Mountain(s)
Mt. Lincoln 14,286’ and Mt Bross 14,172’
Distance:  5.5 miles
Elevation gain:  2,600ft

What to wear hiking:
-Hat with brim
-Sunglasses
-Broken in hiking boots with wicking socks
-Hiking shorts with removable leggings or something windproof for lower body
-Daypack containing:
-10 essentials
-1-2 liters of Water
-Polar fleece
-light rain proof parka
-lightweight gloves for warmth
-Sunscreen
-Snacks-high protein (granola, trail mix, jerky, candy bars, etc)
-Chapstick
-Camera (optional)
-treking poles (optional)

Camping:
We will be camping 2 nights so please bring your normal overnight gear
which includes but is not limited to: tent, sleeping bag, toiletry
items and bug spray, etc.  If you do not wish to camp both nights you
are still welcome to come hike with us on Saturday, however, you will
need to make your own ride arrangements.

  • 10th- 16th OA National Summit Corps
  • 12th- Parent/Leadership Meeting- No scouts
  • 19th- Reg. Troop Meeting Guest speaker, tying games
  • 23rd-30th Green River Trip
  • 26th- Troop Meeting with a Twist

Rest of July, the troop is learning to tie knots
