Troop 88 Scribe Notes – Sept 27, 2011
Josh announced that the schedules will be posted by the door for all meetings. Sorry if there weren’t enough tonight.
Josh asked for all Troop Guides and Patrol Leaders to meet with him to discuss the schedule during the breakout.
Fall Camporee is in two weeks. It will be on Oct 7-9 at PV. Mr. Bender is in charge of Camporee. Please talk to him about signing up. Please also talk to Mr. Bender about who can drive and how many extra people you can take. All adults who will be camping need to have their Youth Protection Training completed. We also need all medical forms for campers.
Pre-camporee will not be a camp-out. It will be Saturday at Mr. Lutz’s house from 7 or 8 until 12. If you don’t know where Mr. Lutz lives, please contact him or Mr. Bender. Please dress appropriately for the weather since we will be outside. You don’t need to be in uniform for pre-camporee, just normal Saturday clothes.
All popcorn orders must be turned in by Oct 15 to Mrs. Hoaglin. Please email her with what you have sold and what you need ordered. Her email address is moc.qnull@nilgaohh.
Zach said there is one more work day for the maze – tomorrow starting at 4. Please show up to help!! Haunt nights start this Friday, Sept 30. Haunts are every Friday and Saturday until Halloween from 7 – 11 each night. You need to have your own costumes. No characters like Disney. We want to scare people! Bring warm clothes and a flashlight. We need at least 20 people every single night to haunt the maze. There are thousands of flyers that have Troop 88′s name all over them. We need to keep our commitment to Flat Acre Farms. We also need adults to help with security and admissions.
Mr. Ski wants to know where the Facebook page is to advertise this haunted maze!
Mr. Ski also said this is our third year doing this so we can’t let people down who have been before.
Morgan Miller was recently elected as the Section Chief for the OA Chapter for our section. This is a first for Troop 88! He also recently obtained his vigil for OA. Way to go Morgan!!!
Closing announcement from Josh was that everyone needs to do better with leadership. The Venturing Crew did an awesome job tonight with knots and lashings but people were disrespectful and left after only a few minutes. Scouts need to be more attentive to what their Patrol Leader is telling them.
Nando lead the Troop in a poetic prayer about faith and God’s leadership.

Troop 88 Scribe Notes September 20, 2011
Zach Sertic talked about the haunted maze. We still need help building it. We will work on it this week Wednesday from 4-7. Friday there is no school so we can work on it that day starting at 10am. We need at least 20 people per night to haunt the maze starting on September 30 so please sign up! We also need adults to work security and tickets.
Wreath Sales started tonight. Forms were handed out. We have until October 30th to get the forms turned in. There will be two Sunday’s at PEPC to sell wreaths. The 16th and the 23rd from 8:30am to about 12. Those who sign up should attend services too. Questions can be sent to the coordinator. Her email address is on the sheet handed out and her phone number too.
Mrs. Bepristis held a merit badge counselors training during the breakout for adults.
Mr. Garin reminded everyone about dues. 40 boys owe dues. 30 boys have money in their account. He also reminded everyone for the popcorn kernel that forms are due on October 15th.
Mr. Bender gave an update on Fall Camporee – Boot Camp! It will be October 7-9. There will be patrol competitions for things like boot javelin, boot ball, sponge wars, riffle shooting and geocache. Webelos are invited and will be part of the troop patrols. They can camp too but have to sleep with their parents. Medical forms are needed. Patrols will plan meals, shop and cook. Patrols will be planned later. It will cost $10 for camporee. Food costs are per patrol.
Pre-camporee will be the week before at Mr. Lutz’s house. More information later on that.
Mr. Lutz reminded adults about ITOLS on October 8th at Camporee. Adults can register for that online.
Mr. Decker went over how cool fall court of honor was. It was AWESOME! We ate a 200 pound pig and Mr. Albee was surprised. We earned over 300 merit badges! Let’s earn more for the next court of honor!
Alex made an announcement about a religious award class and there were 5 spots open for sign-up for the first 5 that came up.
For the breakout sessions, patrols were told to meet and talk about what they want to do for the next six months.

I’m Dave Garin, ten.tsacmocnull@evad_namrebmun, Troop 88′s Treasurer. I wanted to make you aware as a committee the Troop will be making some changes to dues structure starting effective immediately. The new policies are as follows:
· Monthly Dues have been eliminated. Instead the dues will be $60 annual due on February 1st (or prorated based on join date) or as an option dues can be paid quarterly at a rate of $25 which will be due February 1st, May 1st, August 1st, and November 1st.
- · All new registrations and transfer scouts will be required to pay dues and registrations at the time they join.
- · To be re-chartered with the Troop registration fees will also be due on February 1st. I believe this will remain the same as last year of $15 ($27 if boys life is added), but I will let you know for sure when we get closer to registration.
- · All scouts who currently have unpaid dues will need to have one of three things happen. Either by next meeting (September 20th) pay the dues by cash, check, or request a deduction from your scout account. If no request is made I will automatically deduct dues from the scout accounts after next meeting. If no payment is received and no money is available in the scout accounts the scouts will lose their privileges for earning merit badges, rank advancements, and attending Troop activities, such as camping.
- Prior to requesting a Scoutmaster conference/Board of Review the boys will be required to visit me first to have me initial their book. If they do not have their books signed off as being in good standing with the troop they will not be permitted to advance.
I know this seems a little harsh, but we have been having problems receiving timely payments and ultimately the administration has become excessive and unsustainable so these changes are necessary. Troop 88 is an extremely strong troop with a top notch program. We want to make sure this program can continue at or exceed current levels for the years to come. So in advance I appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
As a reminder Troop 88 has four active fundraisers to help you meet these financial obligations. Popcorn sales are going on currently for the next few weeks. Last year our boys made $3,640 last year off just popcorn sales. Wreath sales will also be starting up shortly and last year put $525 in the pockets of our boys. As always King Soopers cards are available and reward the scouts at a rate of 5% of purchases at King Soopers on a monthly basis. Our boys have earned about $650 a month on King Soopers so far this year. Let’s of course not forget House of Fear. The boys will have an option for either community service hours or their time to be as a fundraiser. We had 3 other fundraisers this year that our boys earned a total of $3,043. That totals to fundraisers that went directly to scout accounts for the last 12 months of approximately $15,000 (That’s $150 per boy on average). Troop 88 does fundraisers almost entirely for the benefit of our boys so they will have no problems paying for dues or camps. Take advantage of these opportunities and teach your boys they can pay their own way. It’s a life lesson that they will thank you for later.
Treasurer, Troop 88

A little more info. (See orig email for more). More info and packing list to follow…..
NEW – MEET AT LINCOLN PARK AND RIDE AT 6:00 FOR A 6:15 SHARP DEPARTURE. Breakfast at MacD’s is optional. Healthy Breakfast is recommend.
It’s about a 2 1/2 hours drive up to the head trail of Upper Cataract Lake. Silverthorne exit, down Hwy 9. Next exit to the trail head is by Green Mountain Reservoir.
About a 6 mile hike, 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours depending on if we stop at Surprise Lake and have lunch. It’s not going to be a race
Like getting ready for the 14er hike, start during water and eating bananas now.
Be at the next Troop meeting 1/2 hour early. Boys in PLC, we’ll need to work something out..
Want to know more of what Upper Cataract Lake looks like? Check out these new pictures I found:
Join us on Troop 88’s backpacking trip to Upper Cataract Lake in the Eagle Nest Wilderness Area! The trailhead is about 22 miles from exit 205 off I-70, north of Silverthorne. We will do about a six mile back country hike with a stop halfway up for lunch at Surprise Lake. We’ll depart PEPC at 5:30PM Sharp on Friday, Sep 9th and car camp at the Lower Cataract Lake campground for the night. We’ll stop along the way for dinner. After a nice breakfast, we’ll backpack up the lake for a day of fishing and exploring. We’ll head back down Sunday, Sep 11th mid-morning. After ditching our backpacks, and if we have the energy, we’ll hike around Lower Cataract Lake and see the Cataract Falls.
More on the hike and the route we will take, check out this really cool Blog-photo journal some scouts- age boys made. (Hint: They caught about 55 fish; most were Brook Trout, COOL!) http://cooutdooradventures.blogspot.com/2010/07/upper-cataract-lake-for-many-years-i.html
If you’re interested, plz reply to ten.tsacmocnull@reicnomrj by this Sunday. (IF YOU SIGNED UP LAST MEETING, PLZ RE-SIGN UP as I want to know if you are still interested). Moms and/or dads are welcome and needed. The amount of boys we can take WILL depend on the number of seats we have and the number of VOLENTEER PARENTS we have. First come, first serve, with the boys signing up last meeting at the top of the list. I’m hoping to see some of the older boys and some Venturing Crew attend and share their outdoor skills. Right up their alley!
We will meet little before at our next Troop meeting at 6:00 on Sept 6th. It will be a quick meeting with a lot of info, so don’t be late! Also bring your Medical Form. We will go over packing and break our group into “buddy” patrols. I will send out a packing list in the next few days along with directions and a map for the boys to print out.
Cost: $5.00 Use Fee, (but I’ll not sure if that’s per car or per person, or per day, I’ll let you know), Dinner on the way up. Breakfast that we’ll cook together Sat morning. Scouts will pair up for Sat dinner and Sun breakfast. Each scout will pack a lunch for the hike up on Sat and back down on Sun. Snacks and gas money for the drivers.
