Survial Kit


These are items each scout and adult should carry in his/her survival kit. It is recommended each scout attain these articles as soon as possible. However, this should not cause a hardship on the family. The items on the list may be purchased a few items at a time. Some of these items may overlap with other equipment lists in this packet. In those instances, you only need the one in your survival kit.

This kit should be carried with you at all times when you are hiking or camping. IF YOU LEAVE WITHOUT IT, IT CANNOT HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT!

IIn a large fanny pack or small day pack:

  • First Aid Kit
    • Band-aids
    • Tweezers
    • Chapstick
    • Small sunscreen
    • Moleskin for blisters
    • Water purification tablets
    • Kaopectate tablets *
    • Rolaids *
    • Needle
    • Nail clippers
    • Eye drops
    • Small bar of soap
    • Misc. safety pins
    • Pepto tablets *
    • Aspirin *
    • Tylenol *
  • Lighter
  • Fire starters
  • 50-100 ft. small cord or rope
  • Poncho or raincoat
  • Small notebook with pencil
  • Plastic whistle on lanyard
  • Folding saw
  • Beef jerky, gorp, or power bar(s)
  • 2 – 7 bushel trash bags (temporary shelter or raincoat)
  • Aluminum foil (2 pieces: 3×4 ft. folded into 3×3 in. piece)
  • Water bottle with wide mouth and screw-on lid
  • Candle
  • Compass
  • Signal mirror (2×3 in.)
  • Small flashlight with extra batteries
  • Pocketknife
  • Emergency blanket
  • Toilet paper in Ziploc bag
  • 4 quarters to telephone
